Current work in progress
In this episode, I reflect on the past week's celebrations with my family, discuss my company's compliance process improvements, share updates on various projects including private company onboarding for Adidas and work with Hamilton Rock, and outline plans for upgrading my personal workflow setup.
Hello, and welcome to week 88 of In Progress. Recording this a little bit later because I had Monday off and we were in Brighton visiting my sister. Had a day on the beach, and the boys got to see an upside-down house which was fun. And then two long train journeys, but you know it's a direct train so I can’t complain. Last week, end of last week was very good because it was our anniversary, and so we had a lovely day out as a family, and then took holiday with my wife to a hotel with a massage on the evening out, so that was very nice. Had a friend babysit. What else was last week? Last week was good, short week obviously, but yeah I was organizing last-minute anniversary things, but then also had the first bit of compliance approved which was nice, kind of approved that our process works through Claude and the manager repo. So Brian Castle has kind of coined this term, he launched a product. The idea of a manager repo which has agent skills and kind of maybe content in there that you're drafting or like it’s the idea that it’s a code repo. This has existed before, but it kind of brings a new level of actionability to it where you’ve got an agent working on content in a repo. So this is like, for us with compliance, really nice that there’s a whole process and it's around these files, and you're generating these files which then get submitted, and we can automate things from there as well. Like I can get to the point of doing screenshots or interacting with my local application.
Manager Repo Implementation Details
This week, well yesterday I had Brighton on Monday and then a day in a cafe yesterday where again got some deployments done yesterday, and yeah on the compliance piece actually over the holiday I started building, well I’ve yet to test it, but an API for our feature flags so that the compliance process can push the feature flags along the process without it being manual which is interesting and might turn into an MCP implementation at some point. And then I've also been doing a lot of working through thought about updating how I'm working. The tools I’m using, I’m still going through that, but the general idea of, oh we’ve got someone visiting. The boys are on holiday so you might hear some other voices in a minute. Essentially I might be doing, buying a Mac mini to kind of run permanently or a little bit on desktop and then I can access it from my phone or my mobile, but I'm like really just looking at all the tooling around that to make sure it all works so I can change what I want, and this is triggered by actually wanting to switch to Ghost TTY, but actually Claude’s recommending I stick with iTerm 2 for now, so interesting. Anyway, the rest of this week I've got my meeting with myself tomorrow, and I'm going to try out new co-working, I say new co-working space, but it's new Deschume which is an Indian restaurant in the UK brand. They are working through a co-working app called WorkC which lets you do co-working by the hour. So I’m intrigued, we’ll see what happens. I’m doing it tomorrow because tomorrow here is due to be 36 degrees so I cannot work in my office because I don't have aircon. I need to go to a place with potential aircon. Just otherwise I’ve going to melt. Yeah, but yeah excited the idea of like upgrading my whole setup so I’m kind of a bit more flexible by having an always-on machine. Yeah that's an exciting thought. But yeah otherwise I need to really finish. I’ve got like eight compliance submissions still to do.
Current Project Workload
I’ve been working with Adidas on private company onboarding, that’s getting there, it’s quite well. And then with yeah there’s some other bits with Hamilton Rock. It's just internal processes as well as dealing with some production issues that have just cropped up. So and then there’s Google Summer of Code is still rumbling on. My mentee has produced a possible feature flag package, new feature flag package that I need to look at and review that code. That’s just all a bit. And then there's a lot; there’s my business insurance has come up and there’s some other client work that is need the deadline at the end of August that I need to deal with. Yeah, it’s all, it’s all kind of all lots of little bits that I need to crack on and do. I need to just find time for, but I'm like I’m not sure where that time is at times. And it being half term and being holidays makes me not want to work; I just want to sit and kind of do what I want to do and noodle. But anyway all that said and done I’m going to leave it there. Have a good week, being in progress, and I will speak to you folks on Monday. Bye now, cheers!
