Hello! πŸ‘‹

I am a researcher in statistics and machine learning currently working as a postdoc at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. I also contribute to open-source software in various languages, including Python, R, Julia, C++, and Rust.

My open source work is split into a few categories:

Statistics, Optimization, and Machine Learning

  • Multiple packages for fitting Sorted L1-penalized regression models, including libslope (C++) and its bindings in Python, R, and Julia
  • Basin, a Rust library for numerical optimization
  • Benchopt, a framework for benchmarking optimization algorithms (and more)

Visualization, Presentation, and Productivity

  • Moloch, a LaTeX beamer theme for presentations
  • Eunoia, a Rust library for generating Euler and Venn diagrams, with bindings in JavaScript, Python, R, and Julia
  • Qualpal, a C++ library for generating qualitative color palettes, with bindings in Python and R.
  • Tomat, a Pomodoro timer for the terminal

Formatters, Linters, and Language Servers

  • Panache, a language server, formatter, and linter for Markdown and many of its variants (e.g. Quarto, R Markdown, MyST)
  • Fatou, a language server, formatter, and linter for Julia
  • Arity, a language server, formatter, and linter for R
  • Badness, a language server, formatter, and linter for badness

Please check out my personal webpage at https://jolars.co where I occasionally blog about my research and software that I'm working on.
